Always wanted to become Facebook Savvy? Well here’s 10 Tips on how to do just that!

Top 10 Facebook tips

Below is a listing of our top 10 tips for the popular social networking website Facebook.
Hide users, games, polls, etc.

It quickly gets annoying seeing some users posts, game invites, polls, etc. Hovering your mouse to the right of the post and clicking the Hide button as shown below can hide any post. Once this button is pressed you’ll be prompted with the option to hide that user or in the case of a Facebook application the option to hide that application from ever showing up on your profile.

To unhide someone or unblock an application click the Edit Options link in the bottom right corner of the news feed as shown below.
Greasemonkey and FB Purity

Although Facebook does not allow the ability to hide friends getting new friends messages, friends becoming fans of something, and some application messages they can still be hidden with browser add-ons. If you’re running Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Opera, or Safari we suggest installing the Facebook Purity add-on.

Update your privacy settings

Click Account in the top right corner of the Facebook window and then click Privacy settings to adjust who is capable of seeing what on your Facebook profile. We highly recommend going through all the privacy settings to verify your privacy is properly protected.

Anything that is not set to friends only or friends of friends can be seen by anyone searching on the Internet. Below is a few things we recommend for most users.

Under Search in Privacy settings uncheck Public Search Results. This will prevent users from finding your account and profile picture in search results such as Google
Under Application settings, make sure you’re only allowing applications you want to have access to your information. Applications that you grant rights to can have access to your Facebook profile information.
If you’re curious to see how a program or web page connect to the Facebook API can see your profile see Tip135.
Use the Facebook top bar for navigation

Knowing how to properly navigate is vital if you want to get the most out of Facebook. Below is a brief description of each of the available options in the top bar as shown above.

Home (facebook logo) – Clicking this logo will take you to your wall (News Feed) that shows all friends recent posts.

Friend requests – If any friend requests are waiting to be approved this icon will show a notification of how many friends are waiting for approval. This icon can also be clicked when you want to view any friend recommendations or search for friends on Facebook.

Messages – This section allows you to send and receive private messages between one or more people you’re friends with.

Notifications – Any time a friend or Facebook application creates a new post you’ll be notified in this section. Clicking this icon will show all recent notifications. If you wish to change what is capable of sending you notifications including any Facebook applications or games click the See All Notifications link at the bottom and check or uncheck what you want to be notified on.

Search – Finally, the search box in Facebook can be a powerful tool that can be used to quickly find any current friends or people on Facebook. In addition searching for terms such as a company name, product, sports team, music band, etc. will find fan pages and groups that can be joined.

Modify your account notifications

Keep your e-mail and/or your cell phone clean by updating or eliminate Facebook notifications or keep more up-to-date by adding new notifications. Facebook notifications can be added and removed by clicking Account link in the top right corner, then Account Settings, and then clicking the Notifications tab.

Top News and Most Recent
By default Facebook will display your wall postings in the News format, which means it only displays posts it believes are most relevant to you. These results are based on your past interaction with your friends. If you want to see every post made by all your friends that are not hidden click the Most recent link in the upper right section of your news feed as shown in the above picture example.

If you want to adjust who shows up manually click the Edit Options in the bottom right corner of your news feed.
View High School work friends

If you’ve added your High School and/or previous Work locations to your profile, quickly see all classmates and co-workers on Facebook by clicking the link in your Info tab under your profile.

Quickly change profile picture

Your profile picture can be quickly changed to any other picture by visiting your profile, hovering the mouse over your current profile picture, and clicking the Change Picture link that appears in the top right corner of the picture.

Don’t post private information on friend’s walls on in comments

When you make a post on a friend’s wall or in any of their comments realize that any of their friends are going to be able to see that post. If you wish for something to remain only between you and a friend send them a Facebook message instead.

Suggestions and random friend invites

As you get more friends on Facebook it will begin making friend, groups, and fan suggestions. These are suggestions made by Facebook and not your friends. Unless these are something you’re interested in they can be ignored.

This same rule can be applied to people who may want to be your friend that you don’t know. If you don’t know someone don’t accept his or her friend invite. Once someone becomes your friend they’ll have access to any information your friends are capable of seeing.

Tag your Facebook friends in your photos

Always make sure to tag any of your Facebook friends that are in pictures you upload. However, never tag someone who is not in the picture. When someone is tagged in a photo that picture is automatically added to that persons profile and is a great way to share pictures with all friends.

A Child Dies…A funeral takes place…2 Months Later the family finds out the Coroner kept thier son’s Brain and other Organs. Oh My God!

(CNN) — Andre and Korisha Shipley were still mourning the death of their 17-year-old son, Jesse, when two months after his funeral, they received shocking news from students of the same Staten Island, New York, high school Jesse had attended. Members of a forensic science club on a field trip to the morgue couldn’t believe what they noticed on a cabinet in the medical examiner’s lab.
“They saw this jar with a brain in it labeled Jesse Shipley,” recalls Korisha Shipley, whose daughter Shannon came home in tears that day delivering the news. “They knew Jesse and he knew them. They were looking at his brain, and his brain was looking right back at them,” the father adds.
Jesse Shipley died in a car accident in January 2005, and the family members say that even though they agreed to an autopsy, they thought they were burying their son with all of his organs. To them, the cause of death was obvious – blunt trauma resulting from a car accident – so there was no reason for authorities to have kept the brain for further review.
The couple are now suing the city for the emotional distress caused by the handling of their son’s remains.
“As far as we understand, during an autopsy you cut open the body, you look for the cause of death, you check out the organs and you put them back in. In this case, it was a little more than that,” Andre Shipley says.
In a statement to CNN, the attorney representing the city wrote that although officials sympathize with the family, “it was within the Medical Examiner’s discretion to perform an autopsy, and in appropriate cases, to remove and retain bodily organs for further testing.”
Dr. Victor Weedn, a forensic pathologist and a spokesperson for the National Association of Medical Examiners, says determining cause of death is not as simple as people think. He says it is common practice for medical examiners in the U.S. to save the brain and certain other organs when they think it’s important.
“To say someone died of a motor vehicle accident, doesn’t really tell us anything,” Weedn explains. “For example, if a passenger in the backseat was epileptic, their fit could have distracted the driver and led to the death. So, from the outside it may not be so obvious why the person actually died.”

Jesse Shipley stands in his bedroom in Staten Island, New York.
Weedn says the brain is preserved for at least two weeks in a formula that firms the matter enough for the coroner to examine it, a process necessary to rule out suspicion and to maintain evidence for cases when the death is determined to be the result of criminal activity. He says the deceased is often buried within that time period.
“We have a certain authority to investigate death for public health and public safety reasons. That is a right pitted against the individual right, and sometimes that does upset families,” he explains.
Others, such as University of Pennsylvania medical ethicist Art Caplan, disagree. He says most people recognize the duty of medical examiners to rule out crime, but that does not justify keeping organs.

Some of the Best interview results are based on the Questions you ask the Interviewer…You can Impress them with some of these!

Were you ever at a loss for words when an interviewer asked you, “Now, do you have any question for me?” Well, not anymore. Your questions for the interviewer are almost just as important as the questions they ask you. It shows not only that you are serious about getting this job, but that you recognize your own value and are making sure that the job is a MATCH FOR YOU! That puts the shoe on the other foot. Now you are in control. Here are just some of the questions that will make you stand out above the rest and get noticed.

1. Why is the position open? (Watch their body language when they answer…will let you know a lot if you know what I mean)
2. How often has the position been filled in the last five years? What were the reasons? (They ask you on apps for your job history so you should do the same)
3. What would you like done differently from the next person to fill this position? (Bold question but necessary for you to succeed and not repeat history)
4. What are some of the objectives you would like accomplished with this job? (You should get a very specific response unless they are not in the job’s actual department)
5. What are some of the long term objectives you would like to see completed with this job? (Important because it’s equivelant to them asking you for your long term goals)
6. In what ways has this organization been successful in terms of products and services over the years. (Could be a game changer because you are asking them for their track record…just like they will do you)
7. What are some of the most difficult problems one would face in this position? (Most people would shy away from this question but you shouldn’t)
8. What advancement opportunites are available for a person in this position and within what time frame? (If there is no advancement possible you should know that up front so you can plan your future)
9. How is one evaluated in this position? (So important because you can use this in the future if the situation arises)
10. What accounts for success within this company? (A good closer question for an overall outlook on company expectations of employees instead of just department standards)

Of course you will not probably use all of these questions given your field of study, but it is a good start on modeling your questions to fit a similar template. These questions, or ones similar will allow you to gain some control of the interview and show that you are serious about possible employment with this specific organization, and just as important, serious about succeeding at what you do. So I don’t care if you are interviewing with Wendy’s, the job market is so tough that you have to have a way to stand out above the rest. This is just one of those ways. Happy job hunting!

Should They Fine The Bus Driver; or Jail The Father?

James Jones: Dad Charged After Threatening Disabled Daughters Bullies

Seminole County, Florida
James Jones was arrested recently In St. Mary, Florida, and charged with disturbing a school function and disorderly conduct.
He was briefly jailed and released on a $2000.00 bond.
Jones had boarded his daughter’s school bus and threatened the bully (bullies) that had been tormenting his 11 year old disabled daughter for the past month.

Read more about this dad trying to protect his child and see the video after the jump.

James Jones: Dad Charged After Threatening Disabled Daughters Bullies (Video)

James Jones is the loving father of two children. His eleven year old daughter has cerebral palsy, and had recently transferred schools where, for the past month she has endured relentless bullying.
His daughter is currently in a hospital under a suicide watch. He is currently charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing a school function.
A father stands up for, and attempts to protect his child and ends up in jail. How utterly absurd!

The video clearly shows James Jones yelling and threatening those he believed harmed his daughter. Yes, he yelled obscenities at the bullies and he did make it quite clear he wasn’t tolerating the ongoing bullying of his daughter any longer.
Sometimes, a dad has to do what a dad needs to do; in this case it was bullying the bully.

Mr. Jones boarded his daughter’s school bus and demanded everyone sit down. He then asked his child to identify the alleged miscreants that had been tormenting her to the point she became suicidal.
His vocal tirade included threats to **** someone up, as well as kill them.

“I’m gonna (expletive) you up.…this is my daughter, and I will kill the (expletive) who fought her,” Jones said.

He then told them to go ahead and call the police.

James Jones outburst happened after the latest incident of abuse toward his daughter. One of the bullies–a 7th grade student, allegedly threw a used condom in his daughter’s hair, pinched her, hit her, pulled her ears and the entire bus erupted in laughter as the girl tried to remove the condom from her hair.
Raw video of that incident can be seen here.

What normal, loving parent wouldn’t be outraged? This particular alleged bully is fortunate the father didn’t take him to the woodshed!
The school had offered no solution to end the bullying of his daughter—how long does a parent stand by and do nothing?

Amazingly, in the video below, a mother of one of the accused has expressed her own outrage. She said her son is now afraid to get on the bus because of James Jones, and HER son has the right to go to school without fear! Really?
Shouldn’t that right be extended to ALL children? She likely feels her son has the right to be a bully, too. Survival of the fittest maybe?
We all know bullies don’t back down until confronted with a fearful situation. Sad, but true. These little cowards simply can’t handle someone scaring them!

Bullying among children is out of control. Suicide is on the rise, due to some tormenting others to the point they want to die.

James Jones obviously should not have sworn or threatened, but I doubt anyone actually believes he would kill a child.
To the parent’s of bullies, however, you might consider this: There are people that want to, and would hurt your cowardly little miscreant, all because you haven’t taken the time to instill morals or values in them. You might want to sit down and have a serious chat with that child. Explain to them that there will be consequences for their actions, good and bad. If you can’t do that, then don’t fault people like James Jones for doing your job!

All children should be able to attend school without fear, but that isn’t the case. Until bullying is no longer accepted as a rite of passage, incidents like this will continue.

In my opinion. James Jones is a hero. He stood up for his daughter and he put her tormentors on notice that their behavior would no longer be tolerated. Too bad the parents of those that abused this child hadn’t bothered to teach them right from wrong. Many parents would have reacted physically instead of verbally under the same circumstances, and if your little bully had gotten his/her fanny kicked, I doubt very many would care.

Talk to your children, people. Don’t sit back and pretend this behavior is normal or ok, and that it will pass. It won’t, until more people like James Jones stand up and say enough enough. We just need to do it without cussing and threatening.

T.I.;AGAIN? At least it was Marijuana..Should He Go Back To Jail?

LOS ANGELES — Grammy-winning rapper T.I., who is still on probation after spending time behind bars on gun charges, was arrested along with his wife on drug charges after police smelled alleged marijuana coming from their car, authorities said.

The Wednesday night arrests for possession of a controlled substance occurred in West Hollywood during a traffic stop, Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy Mark Pope told The Associated Press.

“Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle,” the department said. “A narcotics investigation ensued” that resulted in the arrests.

he department’s media office said it didn’t yet have details on which specific drug the possession charge concerned.

The arrests reflect that last week of socialite Paris Hilton, whose is being investigated for felony cocaine possession after a motorcycle officer smelled pot wafting from her car.

The Atlanta-based T.I., 29, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., and Cottle, a 36-year-old singer who sang with the 1990s group Xscape and has recently been the star of the BET reality series “The Tiny & Toya Show,” were booked at the West Hollywood sheriff’s station. Bail was set at $10,000 each.

Pope said Thursday that he didn’t know if they were still being held.

T.I.’s publicist declined to comment.

T.I., the multiplatinum hitmaker who has a key role in the current top box office movie “Takers,” served seven months in an Arkansas federal prison and three months in a Georgia halfway house on federal weapons charges and was released in March. He is on three years’ probation.

Since that case, T.I., who had spent time behind bars for drug offenses before, vowed to live a better life. He spoke to kids about the dangers of drugs and guns, and former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young was one of his supporters. As he prepared for his most recent sentence, he starred in the MTV reality show “T.I.’s Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go.”

The father of five married Cottle in late July. “Takers,” a shoot ‘em up about an armored truck robbery that goes bad, was released last week and topped the box-office chart.

In a recent interview with The Associated Press, T.I. talked about living a more positive life.

“Right now, it’s all about moving forward and just acknowledging the blessing that are here today. … Just moving past the regrets of yesterday – the things that could’ve been done better,” T.I. said in a July interview.

T.I., who is known as the “King of the South,” has emerged one of music’s most profitable stars over the last few years. He is working on a new album, “King Uncaged,” which may be released this year.

Who named it “Catch 22″? Where did it originate from?

A “Catch 22 situation” is one in which: no matter which way you go, there is an undesired result or outcome. A perfect example, would be that to find out about an afterlife, you would need to die. Therefore, you either cannot find out, or you have to die to find out.

The term Catch 22 comes from the title of a book by Joseph Heller. It was an interesting (although not easy) read. I definitely recommend it.

Read more: What does the phrase “Catch 22″ mean and what is its origin? | Answerbag http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/23496#ixzz0y70oncHv

Catch-22 is a satiricalhistorical novel by the American author Joseph Heller, first published in 1961. The novel, set during the later stages of World War II from 1944 onwards, is frequently cited as one of the great literary works of the twentieth century.[2] It has a distinctive non-chronological style where events are described from different characters’ points of view and out of sequence so that the time line develops along with the plot.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Catch 22)

Among other things, Catch-22 is a general critique of bureaucratic operation and reasoning. Resulting from its specific use in the book, the phrase “Catch-22″ is common idiomatic usage meaning “a no-win situation” or “a double bind” of any type. Within the book, “Catch-22″ is a military rule, the self-contradictorycircular logic that, for example, prevents anyone from avoiding combat missions. In Heller’s own words:

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one’s safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn’t, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn’t have to; but if he didn’t want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.

Other forms of Catch-22 are invoked throughout the novel to justify various bureaucratic actions. At one point, victims of harassment by military police quote the MPs’ explanation of one of Catch-22′s provisions: “Catch-22 states that agents enforcing Catch-22 need not prove that Catch-22 actually contains whatever provision the accused violator is accused of violating.” Another character explains: “Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can’t stop them from doing.” The theme of a bureaucracy marginalizing the individual in an absurd way is similar to the world of Kafka‘s The Trial, and George Orwell‘s Nineteen Eighty-Four. The concept of ‘doublethink‘ has definite echoes in Heller’s work.

Yossarian comes to realize that Catch-22 does not actually exist, but because the powers that be claim it does, and the world believes it does, it nevertheless has potent effects. Indeed, because it does not exist there is no way it can be repealed, undone, overthrown, or denounced. The combination of force with specious legalistic justification is one of the book’s primary motifs.

The motif of bureaucratic absurdity is further explored in 1994′s Closing Time, Heller’s sequel to Catch-22. This darker, slower-paced, apocalyptic novel explores the pre- and post-war lives of some of the major characters in Catch-22, with particular emphasis on the relationship between Yossarian and tailgunner Sammy Singer.

Nail Salon; Blessing from God? Or Everyday Discrimination?

Michelle Fonville’s day at the spa may have left her with polished nails and neatly shaped eyebrows, but it also left her with the bitter taste of discrimination.

Her day took a sour turn after she saw an extra $5 charge on her bill.

Fonville says, “[The manager] told me she charged me $5 more because I was overweight.”

According to WSB-TV in Atlanta:

Salon manager Kim Tran told Philips [WSB-TV reporter] that the surcharge was due to costly repairs of broken chairs by overweight customers. She said the chairs have a weight capacity of 200 pounds and cost $2,500 to fix.

Fonville told Tran that charging her extra for her weight was discrimination. Tran did not agree—though she refunded the surcharge—and told Fonville not to come back.

Weight discrimination, according to a 2008 study reported in the International Journal of Obesity, is as common as racial discrimination, particularly among women.

In another case this year, Cassandra Smith, a female Hooters employee sued the company for weight discrimination.

According to Reuters, Smith’s manager urged her to lose weight. She claimed she was put on a 30-day “weight probation.” She was 5’8″ and 132.5 pounds at the time.
